This box was my first foray into the world of subscription/mystery sample boxes. I had had my eye on the concept for a while but was finally lured in by a Facebook ad promoting $9.95 for your first box – instead of the usual $19.95 monthly. Considering shipping was included, I figured that was basically a free box of stuff, so obviously I was on it like cream cheese on a bagel.
It took about a week for it to get to me from when I ordered, which isn’t too bad. I ordered after the May ship-out, so I was lucky to get one of the leftovers. A friend who ordered a day after I got my box, had to wait till the June shipment which won’t go out till mid month.
I received 5 full size products –
- Coral Colours Eyeshadow Quad
- Coral Colours Eyebrow Pencil
- The Cosmetic Kitchen Blush
- A face/body mask
- Mary Kay Lip Lacquer
There was some note in the box I don’t quite remember about there not being nice boxes yet so I’m not sure if I’ll get it next month but what I got was just a cardboard shipping box with some tissue paper inside. I apologise about the picture as I hadn’t decided I was going to blog about these when I got it, also the lip lacquer is at the office in a drawer as its a lovely nude colour and quite understated so I left it there to use for meetings. It’s a little on the sticky side but I like it, very flattering. I wouldn’t want to kiss wearing it though, despite its claims for ‘kissable lips’.
The eyeshadows are in a quad called “vivid forest” that I actually like the colours of, as I use a lot of browns and green is a good occasional highlight for brown eyes, but I can imagine a lot of people wouldn’t. The pigment doesn’t come out very strongly on skin though (see below).
The blush will probably last me the rest of my life as it’s enormous and not something I use much of, but it is a nice product. The eyebrow pencil I’m going to give to a friend, mine are bushy and dark enough as it is thank you very much. Still, 4 out of 5 isn’t bad. Below are the eyeshadows and blush in two equally un-hand-flattering photos, without and with flash.
HOWEVER although the tube of face mask smells absolutely divine, I received it with the foil seal over the nozzle broken. I don’t really care and can’t be bothered to complain about it, but it’s not something that should have happened really, for hygiene reasons. So that’s really pretty disappointing.
I received a voucher with this order for $20 off the other boxes, so not only did I get this one for $9.95, I was able to then order the Eco box for $9.95 and the FaB box for $14.99, so I got quite a lot of value out of it. When I tried to cancel the subscription, they offered me another month for $9.95, so hey why not. So far I’m slightly on the positive side of neutral for LHI. I like it, but I’m not blown away by it. It’s also disappointing that all their boxes ship out mid month, so even if you are subscribed to all of them you won’t get your treats staggered through the month.
