Protein Makes you Lose Weight, Die Younger?

You may have heard on the news recently that a recent study by Sydney University has shown that while a high protein diet may make you lose weight, a high carbohydrate diet will help you to live longer.

However, the danger in this kind of research is that the full explanation is rarely provided to the public by mainstream media channels. On hearing the carbs are good for you, many people may have images in their mind of rice, pasta, bread.

The fact is at a molecular level, EVERYTHING we consume falls under either carbs, protein, or fat. Carbohydrates being built of carbon and water molecules in various combinations.

Sugar is a carb.

Starch is a carb.

Vegetables are carbs.

If you want to live longer while maintaining your physical optimum, you want to look at a diet of 15-20% protein, to satisfy your hunger, and the rest primarily vegetables. No refined carbohydrates.

In other words, the new research doesn’t change much from what we already knew about how to eat healthy. Be cautious of what you hear on the radio! Always seek further information.
